Background to Planet Magicon

Planet Magicon was created to prevent the extinction of all magic and wizard folk. Only wizards, witches, Elves, Gnomes and such magical creatures inhabit the islands in Magicon. The cut-over from Earth to Magicon was gradual over the decades. A portal exists in the Indian Ocean on Earth which allows for travel between Earth and Magicon. The creation of Magicon brought with it new age wizardry and an intermingling of technology with magic. Various organizations and bodies were created to control various aspects of the new planet, Magicon. The International Wizardry Committee or IWC was initially formed to ensure world peace, encourage the balance between good and evil, and prevent the misuse and abuse of magic. The IWC consists of crewmembers brought together from various backgrounds, proving that intercultural differences could be overlooked and harmonious relationships made possible. 

Scarves are awarded as each wizard or witch graduates. The colours symbolize different qualifications, for example, red indicates leadership and a highly acknowledged all rounder, while green indicates TechnoScience and Engineering. Besides having specially coloured scarves, witches and wizards have finger wands. 

 Finger wands for the whole of Magicon are made in the city of Elos, on island Elvinol in Magicon. To ensure regulation and control, only one such facility exists. Finger wands are awarded at a specific age (depending on the type of creature) and is also dependent on the academic readiness of the witch or wizard. All candidates are tested through theoretical exams, followed by the practical assessment at camp Brodus. One is expected to know all basic spells by heart and these are then encoded into the finger wands. The power of the finger wand is entirely dependent on the wizard’s input, thereafter. Although a wizard does not have to  memorise spells once they are encoded, commanding spells still expends significant mental energy. 

Rings are given to wizards and witches at birth, after a detailed astrological reading. Rings are made on the planet of the Gifted in galaxy Magenta by the Seers (a division of the Intergalactic Auditory Committee). Seers are contacted by visiting the local Magic Embassies where a request is made by the parent for a Ring for the child. The exact mechanics of the process is highly confidential. All that is known is that the Seers enhance the gems that are used to make the Rings. The Rings are delivered by special Post to the whole of Magicon and to those magical folk still living on Earth. The gemstones for the Rings are obtained from the Mining islands in Magicon where the Seers have a special contract with the Mining Dwarves. Once the Rings are delivered, the parent(s) summon the power of the guardian angel who will assist the user in times of crises.

Wizards in Magicon  were so intrigued and influenced by technology, that they also revamped many other aspects of wizardry such as Flying. Instead of using broomsticks, they used Flymos which are glassy boards, magically motored, but very similar in appearance to small hoverboards (a lot more practical and popular than ordinary broomsticks especially for those creatures too large to fly on broomsticks).  The old-fashioned magic folk still, however, use the old fashioned cloaks and broomsticks and stick wands.
